What is Leaky Gut Syndrome?

The official definition of a leaky gut is an increased permeability in the intestine, which basically means that small junctions develop in the intestinal wall allowing partly digested food particles to enter the blood stream. These ‘foreign bodies’ cause an immune reaction, leading to a variety of symptoms.

These can include:

Atopic eczema, psoriasis, hot flushes, Asthma, anemia, painful joints, pain from fibromyalgia, inflammation, muscle pain, stiffness, weakness, cellulitis, edema, unexplained weight gain, headache/migraine, ADHD, schizophrenia, brain fog (cognitive dysfunction), as well as autoimmune diseases such as: Crohn’s disease, Lupus erythematosus, Multiple sclerosis, Rheumatoid arthritis, Scleroderma and Ulcerative colitis.

Causes of Leaky Gut Syndrome:

Stress, antibiotic use, previous or current infections, long-term use of medication, fungus (e.g. candida albicans) and parasites, increased alcohol consumption, nightshade Plants, environmental toxins, lectins, genetic disposition and congenital traits.

In order to heal the gut we take a 5 ‘R’ approach:
